2017/18 Winter Newsletter #1 - Season Start-up, Events & Information

Season’s Greetings!

We've had very successful Fall Camps at Mont Ste Anne and enjoyed lots of the white stuff. Meanwhile, we are very excited about the start of the season at home and the early opening of Wentworth.  Here is the 2017/18 Winter Newsletter #1.



START OF SEASON

1 - Start of Programs


Our first weekend of programs is the following weekend on January 6/7.

• U10’s meet at 9:25am in front of the lodge. (ski 9:30-11:30, unsupervised lunch from 11:30-12:30, then meet again at lodge at 12:30 and then pick-up at 2:30)
• U12’s meet at 8:55am in front of the lodge.(ski 9:30-11:30, unsupervised lunch from 11:30-12:30, then meet again at lodge at 12:30 and then pick-up at 2:30)
• U14 & Up meet at the trailer at 8:30, unsupervised lunch 11:30-12:30 and train until 3:30pm

2 - Groups

• Registration is on-going and so is the formation of groups and coach assignments.
• Groups will be posted on the website by January 5^th.
• A notice will be sent advising that they are available for viewing.

3 - Parent Meetings

• Because a number of our coaching staff, athletes and parents will be away the weekend of January 6/7, we will have U10 & U12 Parent Meetings on Saturday and Sunday, January 13 & 14 in the Port Greville Room at 12:30pm.
• We will introduce the program, our goals, the racing opportunities, answer any questions. You can meet the Program Coordinator, the Board President and the U10 & 12 Parent Representatives.
• Parent Meetings for older age groups were held in November.

4 - Welcome Parent Après Ski Social

• There will be a welcome parent apres ski social on Saturday, January 14, 2:30-4:30pm for new and returning parents to mix and mingle.
• Details to follow.
   

5 - Slingshot T-Shirt Design Contest

• Open to U8, U10 & U12 athletes.
• Please submit contest entries to admin@wentworthracing.com by January 5^th.
   

6 - Coffee Fundraiser

• We will be taking orders for Javablend Coffee at the lodge for $15/lb on the weekends of January 6/7 andJanuary 13/14 as a Club Fundraiser.

7 - Save the date! Saturday, January 27^th

• Silent Auction and Dance with the Hopping Penguin’s at Duckie’s in support of WSRC
• Tickets are $15 Each
• To make this event a success, we need:
  • Silent Auction Donations
  • Volunteers to work the event
  • Billeting in Wentworth Valley for Band members.

8 - Photo of the Week Contest

• Send your favourite photos e-mail admin@wentworthracing.com or text 9024788185) from Wentworth or an away event by Sunday evening - the winning photo of the week will be announced and posted on our home page.

SKI TRAINING AND RACING EVENTS

9 - Signing Up for Ski Training and Racing Events

• Signing up for training, races and camps is done through our website hosted by Goalline:www.wentworthracing.com
• Throughout the season, each event will be set-up on the Registration webpage and members are informed by an e-mail that the event registration is open.
• Race Notices are posted to the website on the “Race Notices” webpage as they are made available by the host hill race organizing committee (ROC).
• New this year is a “Race Accommodation” page under Race Notices where group booking information is listed.

Registration is Open for the Following:

10 - New Year’s Camp

• This is scheduled Jan 1&2 and is open to U12+
• Registration for this event closes at noon on Jan 31^st.

11 - Farlagne Tech Camp

• There is a Ski NB Tech Camp at Farlagne January 2-4.
• Registration for this event can be done under Registration on our Website.
• Participants have to be 9 years old and over.
• Deadline for registration is noon December 28^th.
   

12 - Farlagne Race

• This is scheduled for three days, January 5-7 and is for U12+
• Deadline for registration is noon onDecember 31, 2017.
• Due to athlete safety concerns, we cannot enter athletes at any race without appropriate training as deemed by the coaching staff.In the case of this year’s Farlagne race, minimum 2 days GS and 2 days slalom training is required.
   

13 - Adult Racing Camps
 

• These are open to all parents of WSRC athletes.This is meant to be a lot of fun and no prior race experience is necessary.
• There are three planned camps:January 12, February 9 and March 9, 2018.
• < >Fee of $45 per day or $100 for all three includes an après ski libation at Ducky’s.
• Registration for these camps is now open.

 
14 - U10 & U12 Skill Development Days
 

• These are additional training days designed for U10 & U12 athletes.
• Scheduled for six Mondays over the course of the season.
• Registration for each Monday closes at Noon the prior Thursday.
• A minimum of five athletes are required for these sessions to proceed.
   

15 - Additional Training Days

• These are offered to U14 & above.
• These are typically on Thursdays and Fridays; see the schedule on the website.
• These are not included in the program fee and are $37 per training day.
• Pre-registration and payment for these days is required by the preceding Monday & Tuesday for Thursday & Friday, respectively.
  Poley Race
• This race is for U10+ on January 21 & 22, 2018.
• Registration is deadline is January 15^th at noon.
