About Us

 

Who We Are:

  1. Wentworth Ski Race Club (WSRC) is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers.     
  2. We are a Club of 85 families and 115 athletes aged 6 to 21.
  3. Our member families live in various communities in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
 

What We Do:

  1. We instill a lifelong love of skiing in our members.
  2. We help athletes reach their potential both on the slopes and off.
  3. We invest in our coaches through mentoring and training to ensure we have high quality trained, certified and motivated coaching staff.


The Goals of WSRC:

The overall goals of the club are as follows:

  •     to foster and develop ski racing in Nova Scotia;
  •     to develop coaches', parents', and skiers' understanding of modern ski racing, coaching and training principles
  •     to utilize nationally accepted programs of ski racing training and coaching;
  •     to provide a social environment whereby all members can experience the comradery and friendship common to the sport of ski racing;
  •     to employ a roster of high quality, trained, and certified ski race coaches and conduct periodic reviews of their suitability to the programs;
  •     to maintain membership in good standing with Alpine Canada and Alpine Ski Nova Scotia.
  •     to ensure the relationships with the ski hill are managed and approved by the Board of Directors whose intentions are to provide cost-effective ski race programs through fiscal management.

A progressive alpine ski racing club whose athletes and coaches are encouraged to achieve their personal best, grow‎ from their experiences and most of all, have fun and develop a life-long love of the sport.

These values, in combination with those brought by the coaching staff, work together to create a group of athletes who race well on their own, as well as supporting each other and embodying the mission of the Club.


 

​ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR AWARD


In May 2017, Wentworth Ski Racing Club was awarded the Association of the Year Award from Sport Nova Scotia.  This was across all sports organizations in the province.

Did you know?

Our initiatives benefit our own athlete development AND provide opportunities for Ski Clubs all over the Atlantic Region.

1 - WSRC hosted three racing events:
  • More than any other Atlantic Canadian Club
  • Spanning All Age Groups
  • Attended by almost every club in Atlantic Canada
     
2 - The Roland Brunner race is WSRC’ s signature race of the season:
  • Only race in the Maritimes that offers all three disciplines SL, GS and SG
  • Includes a Pre-Race Technical Skills Development Camp
  • Attended by over 100 Racers
3 - WSRC created a U12 High Performance Program offering additional weekly training for young athletes.

4 - Participated in the Provincial High Performance Program:
  • Almost 20 WSRC athletes participated
  • Contributed coaching resources
5 - Atlantic Canadian leader in training days offered to athletes:
  • 4-Days a week to older athletes
  • 3-Days a week to younger athletes
6 - Provided expert coaching resources to the Crabbe Speed Week Camp which is touted as one of the finest junior speed camps in the country

7 - Arranged attendance at the Crabbe Camp by Ontario’s Georgian Peaks Race Club and conversely, attendance by WSRC to train and race at Georgian Peaks

8 - Provided beneficial opportunities for WSRC athletes to cross-pollinate with top skiers in the country for their age division

9 - Pre-season Camp at Mt Ste Anne, Quebec:
  • Open to multiple clubs in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
  • Demonstrates a level of inclusiveness and partnership with other clubs that provides for improvement of the sport in Atlantic Canada10 -
10 - 2016/17 Season Results:
  • 8 of the top 10 male and female athletes in the province
  • Provided coaching and/or athletes for every major race event in the Maritimes as well as the Can-Am events and Whistler Cup
  • 8 of 10 qualifying athletes for the U16 Nationals Provincial team
11 - Evolution of FIS:
  • Three racers attended FIS races this year
  • Laid the groundwork to establish a successful FIS racing program
