The Byrne Cup was donated by the Byrne family in memory of Michael Byrne…. Michael Byrne was an accomplished Halifax Architect who took up the Sport of skiing along with his wife Heidi and their 5 children in 1979 when he was in his early forties .

The Byrne family soon had a weekend residence in "The Valley" and all of the kids were involved in Ski Racing withe The Club"

Mike loved the idea of ski racing and was  soon a Masters Racing Junkie ! He skied all over the world but was happiest in his spandex skin suit skiing around GS flags !

Mike also loved the Ski Club and so volunteered on the Board of Directors eventually becoming the last Club President when the Club owned the Wentworth Valley Ski Resort. He and VP John Dickey orchestrated the sale of the resort to the Wilson family with the understanding that a chairlift would be installed and the Racing side of the Club would be allowed to flourish - Which it has.

The Byrne Memorial Cup Race is a tribute to a guy who loved skiing and racing and had a passion for our racing Club and its future success.
