1 - This Weekend…
  • Anyone (parent or athlete) willing to promote the Hopping Penguins Dance & wear a penguin costume at the lift line and in the lodge – let us know!  (bonus volunteer points for club spirit(!!))
  • Saturday is the Cathy’s Cup Race
    • This is a fun race run as a fundraiser in support of Cancer. 
    • You will need $10 cash to sign up your athlete before programs, and sign a waiver to obtain a bib.
    • Your coach will bring your athlete through the course as part of the program.
    • Also, the race course is open to any member of the public – so parents, here’s your chance (!) 
    • Cathy’s Cup has an awards ceremony in the afternoon and it includes a lot of donated prizes for various ages and a random prize draw as well.
  • Also, on Saturday, 14 of our U8-U12 racers will be attending the Martock race.  Coaches Gregor and Ben will accompany these athletes at Martock.
  • Don’t forget to buy your tickets at the Lift Office for the Hopping Penguins dance next weekend!!
  • Sunday after programs we are having a PEI Race Awards ceremony on the deck outside Ducky’s, weather permitting.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.
 
2 – Level 2 Officials Course
  • At the home of Brian Carter in Fall River on February 25 & 26th, 6-9pm.
  • No previous experience required.

  • 50 volunteer points to anyone who achieves Level 2.
3 – Next Weekend:  
4 - Coming Soon….Twelve Hours of Wentworth Ski-a-thon, March 9th.  
WHAT TO DO:
  1. Collect Pledges with Pledge Sheet
  2. Check-in between 8 & 8:30am on Saturday, March 9th
  3. Ski from 8:30am – 8:30pm
  4. Count laps (same # of laps to be awarded to all participants for program hours
  5. Eat free snacks, win a prize, & have fun while raising money for the WSRC
 
PRIZES:
  1. Top fundraiser
  2. Top fundraising group (must have at least 4 group members participate)
  3. Most laps
  4. Coach who raises the most
  5. Funniest costume
  6. Hourly random prize draw
 
ALSO:
Great chilli cook-off will be at clubhouse 5:30-7pm; free chilli for 12-hours particpants.
 
5. Coaching Corner
  • Coach Luke heads to Red Deer Alberta on Saturday where he will coach the CWG athletes.  Good luck Luke!  Laura Vlahovic is filling in while he is away.
6 - Upcoming Registration Deadlines:
  • Team Atlantic Slalom Cup February 23, 2019
  • March Break Camp 2 (NS)  March 1, 2018
  • Brunner Camp:   March 8
  • Brunner Race:  March 8, 2019
 
7 -  The CWG team agenda:
  • Depart at 6 30 am this Saturday.  
  • Arrive in Nakiska in the  afternoon .
  • Super G train Sunday and first SG race Monday, GS Tuesday, SL Wed.
  • Then off to Red Deer Thurs to race Ski Cross Fri And Sat with closing doo that night. 
  • Arrive home Sunday night.
 
8 - WSRC FIS Update….JD Todd
 
JD just arrived back from Bromont Super Series and has a week to recover, then off to the races again.
 
The next month is booked  and takes him to Camp Fortune Ottawa, Mont St Marie PQ, Sugarloaf USA, Mont Equard PQ U19 Nationals And then Le Relais / Stoneham for the final Super Series ending April 4. 
 
He is getting some great results. His FIS points dropped significantly effective yesterday so his start order moving forward is going to do the same.  (ie - from 90th to 40th in a race of 125 men.)
 
9 - Save the Dates!!
  • March 30th – club champs and end of season social event 4-6pm, details to follow.
  • March 31st – bring a friend day for U8-U10+, details to follow.
