From Cole & Ian:

Hey everybody,

Only 1 day left to bid! We have extended bidding on the auction to 9 pm on Sunday night, instead of 5, to allow time for a big turkey dinner before getting in those final bids.     I would also like to remind you that a number of new items have been added to the auction over the past few days, including Montreal Canadian tickets with a weekend in Montreal, and 10 Hurricanes basketball tickets in the Emera skybox in Halifax. If you know any hockey or basketball enthusiasts that may be interested in these exclusive items, please send it on.

Thanks to your tremendous support, Bid To Beat Blood Cancer has raised, at the writing of this email, over $14,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada through bids in the auction and monetary donations, which is absolutely incredible! Our goal is to raise $15,000, so please share the auction with as many people as possible and make sure to get your final bids in on Sunday.

You all have my sincere appreciation for supporting this amazing cause together.

We couldn’t ask to be part of a better community, Cole & Ian

P.S.
A note on “auction sniping”:
Auction sniping is the act of placing a bid right before the auction ends, leaving little to no time for others to outbid the sniper. To prevent this, the end times for an item will be extended by 3 minutes if it receives a bid during the final 3 minutes, up to a maximum 30 minute extension. So be sure to stick around to secure that final bid!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Aerobics Frist Race Night.  It was well attended and a great success!

Cleve's Race Night at Cleve's in Burnside.

Registration will open October 15th.  Early Bird pricing is available until November 30th.

Here are some programming changes you can expect:
  • We’ve eliminated the volunteer commitment for U10 , so this now starts at the U12 level.
  • The Christmas Camp is no longer part of the program fees, to be consistent with other camps, this will be paid for by participants only.  Program fees have been reduced to reflect this change.
  • The three-day program option has a reduced number of Fridays included, to eliminate overlap between program Fridays and event Fridays.
Here are some new program offerings you can expect:
  • Intro to Race for U14 & U16; One day or half day program for new-to-WSRC athletes interested in honing their ski skills and trying out ski racing will be offered on Saturdays.
  • Friday Night Lights; Program for Parents to ski with a coach and hone their race skills for events such as Cathy’s Cup and for the truly adventurous, the Masters category at Farlagne.
Change to registration process:
  • This year we will continue on-line registration, but after completion of on-line registration, we will require a paper signature on ACA forms and the Parent and Athlete Code of Conduct prior to participation on snow.  We will also be providing a registration package which will include:
    • Program information
    • Membership Card
    • Club Toque
  • Opportunities to submit forms and obtain registration package will be as follows:
    • Parent Meetings November 6
    • Ski Wentworth Open House November 17
    • First Day of Christmas Camp
    • First Weekend of Regular Programs
More changes!
  • We are updating and adding to our club policies.  These will be posted on the website as they are finalized.

Concussion Baseline Testing:

Most concussions sustained in sport resolve within 10 to 14 days. Returning to sport too soon however, can cause additional and long-term problems. To determine the safest timelines for returning to play, it is exceptionally helpful to have a pre-injury Baseline Concussion Test (BCT). The BCT is a series of physical and cognitive tests designed to provide a pre-injury overview of healthy brain function. Players who sustain a suspected concussion can then be compared to their pre-injury status and the best decisions regarding return to play and management can be made.

We have arranged a group rate for WSRC athletes to have baseline testing.  We’d like to poll for participation and preferred dates of October 15th or October 22nd Please indicate your interest and availability on either of these dates by Tuesday, October 9th and we will finalize the date & time:  https://doodle.com/poll/zgx5ftbnw8bth8sf

Groups are ideally 6-8 people and with a group of people of 6-8 it should only take about an hour to get through as we'll set up stations to perform different parts of the test. The group rate is 70$ per athlete which will be able to be billed through insurance plans.
