This Weekend:  The Roland Brunner Race….for U14+ Athletes…written by Chris Lambie

A race named after Nova Scotia's first professional ski racing coach is about to kick off in Wentworth Valley.
The Roland Brunner named after a German native who came here to coach skiing a half century ago starts Friday Feb. 23 and runs until Sunday Feb. 25. 120 young athletes from across Atlantic Canada are slated to compete in slalom, giant slalom and super g races for a cup named after the dashing young coach whose life was cut short before he turned 30.

"The Roland Brunner trophy was donated by Peter Kunz, Kell Antoft and I a short time after Roland’s unfortunate death in a bicycle accident near his home in Switzerland as he was preparing to come back to Nova Scotia," remembers Brian Todd.

"He was good friend, great skier and was respected by all that knew him. He was fun to be around."

Volunteering:  Thanks to everyone for stepping up!!  We have a volunteer check-in table set-up in the lodge for a report point so volunteers will be able to find out who they are working with and where to go.

Saturday and Sunday, Aerobics First will be near the bottom of the course with a selection of demo skis for parents and race folks to try
They’ve got some swag and a ballot box for people to enter to win a set of custom footbeds on our table.

Their main goal is to get the word out that they are stocking more race equipment next season.
