For athletes who love to ski, want to keep developing their race skills, and enjoy the challenge of competition without the commitment of a travel-focused program. The Development Team provides focused technical and tactical training at Ski Wentworth, giving athletes the opportunity to train with their teammates, build confidence, and compete in local races. It’s a supportive environment where athletes can continue to improve, have fun, and grow as racers—right here at home.
My Story
The U14–U18 Development Team at the Wentworth Ski Race Club (WSRC) is designed for athletes who want to continue developing their skiing and enjoy the challenge of ski racing while keeping their training and competition closer to home. Following Alpine Canada’s STRIVE pathway, the Development Team provides structured coaching, technical development, and opportunities to race at Ski Wentworth without the travel commitment of a regional or national race program.

Season Dates: January 2/3 – March 21/22, 2027

STRIVE Level: Train to Race – developing advanced technical, tactical, and competition skills
Development Team Focus: Home-hill training, skill development, and local racing
Goals of the Development Team
The Development Team is designed for athletes who want to keep progressing as racers while enjoying a local, team-based program. Athletes will:

Train with teammates in a focused but supportive environment

Develop discipline, resilience, and a positive approach to competition

A Typical Development Team Training Day
9:15 AM – On-snow warm-up at the base of the hill
9:30–11:30 AM – Training with the Development Team coach and athletes
11:30 AM – Lunch with family (unsupervised)
12:30–2:30 PM – Afternoon training with the Development Team
Some indoor video sessions may be incorporated into the program, with every effort made to keep them within the listed program hours.
Prerequisites
Athletes joining the Development Team should:

Have strong skiing skills and be comfortable skiing independently

Be ready to participate in structured training

Have an interest in developing their racing skills

Be committed to attending training and participating as part of a team

Be able to manage their equipment and prepare independently for training
Required Gear

Appropriate skis for the athlete's ability and training

Boots, poles, and helmet

Warm winter clothing, goggles, and mittens

Appropriate protective equipment as recommended by coaches

Race suit is recommended but not required
