English Cup 2009Our first K1 race of the season, the J. English Cup was this past weekend at Martock and it was a blast! With 10 athletes representing Wentworth, we had one of the biggest- and also the most excited teams at the race!! Saturday was an early start, but the athletes arrived on time with smiles and positive attitudes. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful race day. Even though it was quite Sunday was much colder, but that didn’t stop us from having another great race day. There were two GS races in the morning followed by a dual slalom in the afternoon. We finally rolled out of the parking lot on Sunday at 4:30 with our first race of the season a success. Wentworth managed to bring home three medals in total as well as some successful finishes in the dual. I see more medals in Wentworth’s future as a couple of our racers were so close they could taste the podium! Results: Daniel Boudreau - 1st race Kombi - BRONZE 2nd race Kombi - SILVER Luke Ruitenberg - 2nd race GS - BRONZE Dual slalom - BRONZE Chiara Knee - Dual slalom - GOLD Claire Josey - Dual slalom - BRONZE Connor Myers and Leigha Henderson were both fourth in the dual slalom. I would like to congratulate all of the racers from the weekend. There were a few athletes racing for their first time ever. I saw nerves on Saturday morning quickly replaced with excitement and smiles the rest of the weekend. A BIG thank you goes out to the parents for having their athletes on time (or almost on time) both mornings. A special thank you goes out to our jacket carriers and cheering squad. I also want to thank Martock Ski Race Club for a great race. See you on the snow, Shannon |
